My aim is to support you in feeling better about your life. This might be by helping you uncover and process past trauma and challenges, supporting you to get through a difficult phase in your life, or simply helping you create short-term and long-term goals to fulfil your potential. The therapeutic approaches I specialise in are:
Derived from psychoanalysis and the ideas of Freud, the psychodynamic approach is a talking therapy that helps you understand how your current thoughts, feelings and behaviour are shaped by your past experiences and your unconscious mind. It can help you understand what you’re feeling now, why you behave in a certain way and how this affects your relationships.
This approach is helpful for all forms of mental health challenges, especially past trauma.
CBT is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression and is goal-oriented support.
This form of therapy is grounded in the idea that people are inherently motivated toward achieving positive psychological functioning. The client is believed to be the expert in their life and leads the general direction of therapy, while the therapist takes a non-directive role. This approach is explorative, allows the client to maintain control over the content and pace of sessions, and ensures there is no worry about being evaluated or assessed. It is beneficial for all mental health challenges.
This talking therapy involves exploring an individual's personality and how it has been shaped by experience, particularly those stemming from childhood. It is helpful for self-exploration, relationships, and past trauma.
Gestalt practitioners help people to focus on their immediate thoughts, feelings, and behaviour to better understand how they relate to others. This increased awareness can help people find a new perspective, see the bigger picture, and start to effect changes. It is helpful for past trauma, relationships, and self-exploration and often employs a creative approach.
Rather than just talking, mindfulness techniques guide patients to focus on their underlying physical sensations. Mind-body exercises may include breath work, meditation, visualisation and grounding.
If you are ready to take the first step toward improving your well-being, please contact me to schedule a session. I look forward to supporting you on your journey.
